I need to preface this review as it was not from a yak and I have had days with similiar results.

I don't want to bad-mouth them. But wtf???!!!

While they cast a country mile they have no decernable action at at no matter what retrieve. I know their marketed for stripers and blues but we know if I hung a hook from any of my kids toys in a blitz of blues I would hook a fighter. As far as stripers you might have a shot at snagging one of the carcasses at the launch with this since it does sink.

Don't know if it actually cathces but bought one and can see it won't catch crap as far as I can tell.

Again, maybe some have had success with this and would love to know how.

That's what I get for not throwing a Walsh plug!!!

Sorry Mikey, I totally disagree. Ray makes a decent plug that does in fact catch fish. Not only will it catch bass and blues, but it also does a number on the bonito and fat alberts. I would definitely keep it in your bag.

I'm with Kevin M on this one, I had good results with Surface, besides they're almost indestructible.

Mikey, we need to test out the theory with the "toy" this year. Maybe this will cause us to catch something off of Lemish's boat

I also had one of those lures, and it caught a lot of blues, did not get a chance at stripers as casting from shore one day last year, after a blue had chomped on it, my line parted company with the lure sending it a mile out into the bay, boy, those suckers really fly with no line on them.

I'll have to give it a few more chances. What size do you guys reccomend, maybe I'm not using the correct size. Any advice on the retrieve?

NYR, the one that I had was orange I think with that shinny stripe down the middle and 1.5 to 2 oz. or so. I used it surf casting with a retrieve stop retrieve method, jerking action. They would kick up a small rooster tail of water and the blues would just crush them. With a 9ft surf rod, you can get them out a mile past the breakers, even farther when the line breaks

For those of you who have used this lure how do you fish it? I've never used one.

Hi Dave :hello:

It's actually a very easy lure to use. I've had more luck with a faster retrieve skimming it across the surface, but you can slow down the retrieve and work the rod tip for some added action.

Along with bass, blues, albies, and bonito, it has been catching quite a few BFT and roosterfish too. :thumb:

Yep...doesn't look like the prototypical fish killer, but it's very effective and any fish that loves "flash" will have a hard time passing up on it.

Wow! It looks like a universal lure. I'll have to try one.
