newsflash
cabelas in east hartford is selling houdini shad in black and bubblegum for $2 a pack of 6-7...their located just right of the reel department booth...2 square bins.

i picked up three packs.

they have lpt technology...plan on trolling them with a hogy swimming tin.

note, cabelas has 14''(3 pack) hogy's in chatreuese color as well as the 10'' in the clearence asle...on the rack with the ice fishing lures just before the infinite assortment of crankbaits......who needs that many crankbaits, honestly?

dont waste your time going to cabelas if your looking for a certain hogy. they are pretty limited right know.....but sluggos are in stock across the aisle.

yes i have a built in cabelas map in this old noggin.

Sadly the Houdini Shad has been discontinued.

I never tried the Houdinis. Too me they look like a Zoom. We've been crushing the bass on the 7 inch magnum sized zooms this year.As far as Yumbaits, I like the money minnows. Caught a lot of fish on em. Unfortunetly they dont call em MONEY minnows for nuthin. Those things aint cheap. still, rigged on a swimbait hook in shallow water they have a lot of wiggle.I've got some bigger sized ones(6.5inch) I'll be trying out soon. I like the idea that they can be rigged snagless on a swimbait hook. If you need to get down deep I suppose you could put em on a jighead but that could get expensive.

The Houdini Shads were MONEY. Great on stripers and just as good on pike. One of my all-time favorite lures for either species has just gone kapoot. Still one of the only soft plastics I had supreme confidence using. Really sad.

If you find some lying around at discount, buy them (especially the pearl and chartreuse) as quickly as possible. I still can't believe they discontinued them.

Borg.....Houdini's, like many other soft plastics need to be "worked." Not saying you can't catch trolling them, but your odds are greatly reduced. Yum's are the hammer when worked with erratic, fast, twitching retrieves.

I miss them.

Last time I was in there,..CT Outfitters still had them in every color except white.
(I think Blaine probably has all of those in his basement!! )

I see them other places as well from time to time,..Benny's had some in the early season. You can probably also find them on the internet,...I think that when they first announced that they were going out of production there were a bunch of people that bought up everything they could find and are now re-selling them,..sometimes at a condierable discount! The white ones are pretty rare though!
