I've been lurking around here for some time so here goes my first report. I've been priming my 3 year old daughter all winter to go fishing with me this year. I tried it last year without much success. I finally got her to go with me last weekend at Pattaconk but forgot the camera I made sure to bring the camera this weekend and we decided to hit a small pond in Ivoryton that I usually icefish. We headed out about 5:30 P.M. with her Barbie pole, bobber, and some small nightcrawlers in my Native U12 with a small soft folding boat seat behind me. Water temp was arround 63 and the fish didn't start biting till 6:15 or so. Fishing was pretty slow and I was losing her until we caught this small bluegill that she wanted to kiss. A little farther down the shore I got into a decent sized pickerel (18-20'') that was thrashing around a lot and that really got her interest. I didn't get a chance to get a pic, I was a little worried it was going to come off the hook and into the boat! At that point she had bored of the back of the boat and was sitting in my lap. A little hard to peddle with a squirmy 3 year old on your lap! I found a nice brush pile and managed to pull a few nice Crappie out with my Fat Albert rigged Carolina style. Heres one of them. Hope you guys enjoy, but I know it won't be anywhere near as much as I did! Next I got to convince Mom to let me take her in the river and get a nice Striper

Fishguy.... Not kidding....THAT is the best "first" post ever on this site as it focuses on what is most important. So thanks for posting and introducing yourself and thanks for posting such great pics of that little princess of yours. You've got yourself a keeper. Don't be shy. Rol

Great shots and a great day. She's a cutie-pie and I hope you can keep her hooked on fishing - there are sure worse hobbies to have growing up in this crazy world. My daughter turns 2 in June and I am eager to start the priming process as well. I can only hope Molly's first day is this good!

Thanks, guys! I suppose I should also introduce myself as well. My name is Matt and I just got into kayak fishing last spring. Got the bug pretty bad, I have a 22' center console that sat all last summer. I actually only took it out twice, I just find kayaking much more calming and relaxing. My little girl and fishing buddy Cassie, is 3 and my son is 4 months. I mainly fish the salt and the ct river up here in Haddam in the spring for Striper. I figured I should start Cassie out in the sweet water. Nothing like a little bobber fishing to bring back the memories of childhood! My ride is a Native U12 that I did a Mirage drive conversion on over the winter. So far I really like it but I'm still saving up for a Hobie Revo for next season. I've learned a ton from this site and really enjoy being here.
Matt

I definitely want to get out, I am putting my time in with the wife on an upcoming trip so I should have no scheduling issues.

Great first report! and welcome to the sight. What a little heart breaker. Started my daughter at the same age. On opening day 2 years ago as a junior in high school she wanted to know if I had room in the boat for her. We only fished for a few hours before we broke for breakfast, but You'll never get one on one with them like that any where else. Keep it short and make it interesting and she'll always have the bug.
