Well I finally entered the 21st century of kayak fishing and bought myself a new Humminbird 385 ci ff/gps. A little setback though as the transducer that came with it is an in hull design which will not give me water temps. Called customer support and I'm exchanging it for one that will fit in my scupper which basically puts it in the water. I'm like a little kid wating for it to come in the mail. I do have my misgivings though as I'm afraid it will enable me to see the fish that I can't catch. Kind of a catch 22(or none) if you will. Anyone have this model? How do you like it? It's going to fit in the ff/gps compartment in my Ocean Trident Angler nice ,clean and snug. Hope it helps.

Rol Rol from what I read in the installation manual the ff capabilities work fine but the manual stated the temp probe would not work. Maybe I misread it. Anyway, I think the scupper hole mount transducer is the way to go. Easier install and none of that grease inside my hull. Plus accurate temp readings. I'm a patient man..................that damn transducer better be here by Tue. or heads are gonna roll, as I was saying I'm a patient man and doing it right is the way to go................damn it. That temp probe will still give you and approximate +/- 2 degree temp variation even though its not in the water. The hull will cool or heat up to water temps. There will be slightly more variation if you have a darker colored kayak and you have the sun beating down on it. But even then....the temp readings are typically close to reality. With that being said, you've got a great option with the scupper mount and I know you'll be happy with it. Where's the pic of the ride? If you are the YD Philosopher, I should at least know what you paddle!

Oh well, chock this one up to experience or inexperience as the case may be. The sled has no yakdawg.com stickers on it yet. I will post a picture when I am done with it. Just wouldn't be right without it.

I love O,K,'s partnership with Humminbird. I feel its a fantastic option IMO. It just makes a messy job simple. I wish other manufacturers would follow the example. Imagine being able to mount any fish finder with out having to jury rig a bracket on the rudder or having to Goop the transducer into the hull. Just slide it up a scupper and screw down a locking ring. Simple. Our sport is growing and this is a small step in a positive direction.

N.W. I had a chip for a Lowrance H2O unit. Although IMO the unit was a POS for what I wanted it for, the chip brought the maps to life. The original maps were very crude.

For every 1 foot of contour change, the chip will tell you. Unlike most nav charts, you often have to guess where bottom contour changes. Not with this chip. It's redefined how I fish as I'm completely capable of fishing EXACTLY where I want rather than guesstimating. Slaps turned me onto it...and I'm not going back!

NWill, I was going to suggest using the HB Kayak transducer mount kit, it literally installs in less then 10mins. Like Bubba Keg mention the +/- 2* ratio is dead on, I double checked it with a small pool type thermometer, the readings I've found were in that range, with the exception of extremely humid hot days it may be a little. The temps are purely surface and I dont pay much attention to them as fresh water guy. Im more concerned with thermoclines on the radar.
