Could you say a word or two about the type of structure that you're targeting and what you're doing with it when you say you are "working" the bait? Thanks! rocks and cobblestones with weeds. I was fishing a bit deeper than I usually do--15' to 20' so I was bottom bouncing because the fish were on cloudbait on the bottom. Let it sink and yo yo it along with your retrieve in the bottom 8' of water. In shallower I will use a slow swim or speed swim with lots of pops and pauses.

I got out this weekend and found a few more fish. Picked up a nice one (43") on a blamber jiggn hogy on a jighead... In case you were wondering what a properly rigged hogy looks like, this is exactly the definition of a properly rigged bait.. Later on I picked up another nice fish on the blamber jiggn hogy a 47" fish that gave me a serious tow in the yak (and a good soaking at boatside) Hogy had a special on these this weekend http://www.hogylures.net/category/1161/ ... ALS/1.htmlgood timing!!

One more question for you Slappy,...what brand of jig heads do you prefer for 10" & 14 Hogy's? Okay, two more questions actually,...just curious, are you strictly a night guy now or do you fish in the daytime as well and if so,..do you use the same techniques?
Thanks for all your help! Mark

Mark, I use a bunch of different brands and styles. I'm working with Hogy to get something out for us yakkers. Jigheads are about the right size and the right hook as well as a surface for gluing the plastic to. You need to find one to balance the weight with the depth and currents you fish. Focus on a head that will keep you in the bottom third of the water column.
Pre kids I was a daytime fisherman, but now it is mostly night. Day colors for me are mostly two tone and white. any two tone is good, black and white, blamber etc. Red is also a great daytime color. Day tactics are basically the same, but I tend to find the fish a little deeper. At night I will often catch good fish in 2-5' of water, not so much during the day.

Just a note on the glue,...I'm actually an adhesive chemist so I really want to be an advocate,..however a few weeks back I had had an experience that caused me to question things. I had a decent bite going with a Houdini and after a couple of fish it got pretty loose on the hook,...instead of changing the bait to a new one,..I put a drop of cyano acrylate (super glue..) on the head to hold it in place on the hook. As soon as I did that the bite magically shut down for me! So right now it's only a one-time thing and I'll do a few more experiments before I make any claims,...however knowing how important it is to have something that tastes/smells good on the end of my tube to attract a striper,...I am suspicious now that maybe the odor/taste from that glue could be a turn-off to stripers. It might be just that the glue was fresh though,..lord knows slappy doesn't seem to have much trouble catching fish with a glued bait!!
